Fall 2025 Camping Trip

Last weekend, was our last camp out of the year. My daughter wanted to go on a camp out together. So we loaded up the four-wheeler, we packed up the camp trailer, and we bought steak. We headed up to the spot we had talked about - the Monte Cristo Wilderness Area, in the mountains to the east of Ogden, Utah. It took us about an hour and a half to spot we had picked out on Google Maps. The drive was fantastic, filled with the changing fall leaves. We saw a lot of yellow, red and orange trees. Image

We arrived at the predetermined camping spot. This was not a forest service campground, most of the Forest service campgrounds in this area closed shortly after Labor Day. We were doing what we call "dispersed camping" or "dry camping". We found a fun spot to camp at, tucked up against the trees. Image

We got all setup and then we drove the four wheeler around and played a few board games. I cooked steak and grilled pineapple spears for dinner. A pineapple was a hit, my daughter actually asked for more - so I fired up the grill and cooked her another pineapple spear. We had hoped that when it got dark we'd be able to see some good stars, but it was cloudy and even rained a little bit as we finished up for the night and went to bed.

The next morning, I woke up early. As I stepped outside the trailer. I could hear an odd sound - I thought it sound like someone chopping wood. As I stepped around the end of the trailer to investigate the sound, I saw two moose fighting. They were head-to-head each with their antlers hitting the other. I stayed near by my trailer, and didn't approach them - I'm not that stupid. But I got some fantastic pictures! Eventually, they walked into the trees, but I could still hear the fight. I should also note, that I did go back into the trailer, and I told my daughter to look out the window near her bed because there were two moose fighting outside - she was able to enjoy the show as well. After breakfast, we drove the four-wheeler around for several hours. We explored a whole bunch of new trails that we had never been down. We saw some amazing fall colors. This was a fun four-wheeler trip, it was the first time we've taken our four-wheeler down small roads that are just for four-wheelers. My daughter named the area we were in "Rock valley", because all of the rocks that were in the road. But my old four-wheeler handled for terrain like a champ.

After a few hours of that, we packed up and headed home. Just in time for a pretty good rain storm. My truck is still dirty from the rain and mud. Overall, this was a fantastic end to the 2025 camping season. I love fall camping.
